Health insurance in Basel: what you need to know

As a resident of Basel (ZIP 4001), you are assigned to premium region 1 within the Canton of Basel-City. The Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) defines premium regions nationally — insurers must comply and may set different premiums per region.
Hospital coverage in Basel
The mandatory basic insurance (KVG/LAMal) covers general hospital treatment in your canton of residence. Residents of Basel have access to the following hospitals:

- Universitäts-Kinderspital beider Basel (UKBB)
- Bethesda Spital
